Small, compact MPV’s are expected to be the next big market in China. Although Chinese families usually have just the one child there is a demand for compact MPV’s that provide more space than a traditional hatchback model. VW’s Tiguan has ruled the MPV market for a number of years now, however other companies are starting to take note of the segment, Chevrolet is expected to launch its Orlando model over the course of 2012 and Honda are thought to be readying multiple models.
Honda currently sells the JDM Honda Odyssey in the Chinese market via its link up with Guangzhou Auto, however Honda’s other partner at Dongfeng are readying the Honda Elysion and also the Honda Stream for the Chinese market. The Stream has already been sold in China as an import, but this time it seems the car will be made via Dongfeng-Honda as will the Elysion. The Elysion will be chasing the more business orientated user whilst the smaller Stream will be chasing personal use clients.
